Pedagogical Practices
Engaging children in learning through purposeful play
At MK, teachers engage children in learning through purposeful play. While children actively participate in play that is enjoyable and meaningful, teachers observe them to support and guide their play to achieve important learning outcomes.
Extending children's learning through quality interactions
Teachers also seek to extend children’s learning through quality interactions. This involves teachers and children engaging in frequent and extended conversations to build on ideas and concepts.
Teachers ask questions and use prompts to understand children’s thinking and learning process. They encourage children to put into words and their thoughts or what they have seen, heard, experienced and learnt.
By listening respectfully to what children have to say, teachers build trust and strengthen the relationship between them, which enables children to be confident in asking questions and seeking answers to their questions.
Curriculum
Our curriculum is specially designed based on MOE’s Nurturing Early Learners (NEL) Framework (opens in new tab). This is where we believe that children are joyful, active, curious and competent learners, and we aim to nurture your child holistically to be lifelong learners. In addition, we believe that children learn best through an integrated approach and intentionally planned learning activities.
MK offers classes in the 3 official MTLs (Chinese, Malay and Tamil). We encourage children of Chinese, Malay and Indian ethnic race to take their own MTLs.
Our MK curriculum comprises 2 flagship programmes:
Each term, the children will also be involved in a Weeks of Wonder (opens in new tab) project.
In addition, each MK will also have our own centre programme(s), and together, it makes up our Total MK@Huamin Curriculum.

Total MK@Huamin Curriculum
At MK@Huamin, we believe in providing opportunities for children to be physically active, learn in a real world context and develop a variety of skills that prepare them not only for the classroom, but also for life. We also believe in inculcating positive values and learning dispositions in children.
